Lessons I have Learned So Far in 2023.

We learn everyday, it is something we cannot change. We either learn intentionally or the hard way. Either way, reality happens without favoring anyone. I have learned that you cannot completely predict the future no matter how set your goals and plans are.  People switch faster than the snap of a finger; friends turn lovers and lovers become strangers. But that is life.  2023 has been amazing in different ways for me, I have met amazing people, been exposed to different ideas and ways. I am more open than ever to meeting people and growing up – not just in size but intellectually. The most beautiful yet painful feeling is love. But it doesn't have to be that way. Love shouldn't give you conniptions and leave you questioning your worth. This is what the end stages of the modern day love feels like.  I have learned to trust in the power of God and communication. I am a reclusive person, but my mind is the loudest when I overthink. So I'm learning to communicate my th...

The Vulture and The Little Girl.

The Vulture and the little girl is a haunting image of an emaciated Sudanese child. This child collapsed on her way to a United Nation's feeding center. As seen in the picture, a vulture stalks her from a few meters waiting to eat her remains. This picture shot by South African Photographer, Kevin Carter, known alternately as "The Vulture and the Little Girl" and "Struggling Girl," would become emblematic of Africa's plight in the 1990s. Published in the New York Times in March 26, 1993, it sparked worldwide outrage and sympathy. The picture raised tough questions about the role of the photojournalist with some asking;  "Why didn't he help her?" "What became of her?" "How could he just leave here there?" Carter claimed he shooed the bird away, but it wouldn't just leave. Some editorial writers believe his actions weren't just enough. Just three (3) months after taking this picture, Carter would take his own life fro...

Did you know? Female anaconda have a 100 percent probability of getting pregnant.

Did you know?  When female anaconda mates, they have a 100 percent probability of getting pregnant. Knowing this, after mating with the male anaconda, they strangle him to death and afterward eat him.  They eat the male for protein For strength.  Why do they need the strength? Because pregnant anacondas often fast for their entire pregnancy period, which is about seven months long.  So the protein from the male they ate at the start will help as a full 30 percent of her body weight goes into making babies. Mental health awareness.

Mental illness is on the rise and it's not hard to see why. And unfortunately, a lot of people won't know where to turn for help. A mentally ill person doesn't deserve to hear these words when they are struggling: • "Everyone struggles"  • "You're not the only one" • "It's just a phase" • "Get over yourself" • "It's all in your head"  They deserve to hear words like: • "Are you ok?" • "Can I help you in anyway?" • "Would you like to talk about it?" • "I am here for you"  Too ma ny people follow the trend of 'copy and paste' when it comes to mental health posts. It goes beyond, "speak up if you are tired; talk to someone".  When people really start to struggle and go through a dark time, no one wants to be there for them. Yet everyone is fast to put a knife in their back or drag them down even lower. "Like and Share" or "Copy and Paste...

A Mentally Deranged Mother Kills Three Of Her Children Over Claims That They Were Badly Behaved.

Lauren Anne Dickason was charged with murdering her daughters Liane, aged six, and twins Maya and Karla, aged two. Dickason, who is on trial in the High Court in Christchurch, New Zealand, has admitted to killing her children but denies it was murder. Her defence claims she is not guilty by reason of insanity. “I did the twins first… The first one was being really, really, really horrible to me lately,” the mum explained, referring to Karla. “She has been biting me and hitting me and scratching me and throwing tantrums 24 hours a day – and I just don’t know how to manage that. That is why I did her first.” She explained that the children were jumping on couches and not listening to her. So she went to the garage, spotted some cable ties and thought, “That could possibly work”. In the interview, Dickason admitted she “had been thinking about it for sure,” and put the three sisters in a room before using the cable ties on them. That attempt was unsuccessful, however, so she suffocat...

The World's Oldest Musical Instrument.

The bone flute is the world's oldest musical instrument. Its pieces were discovered in an Egyptian cave. It is a 40,000 year artifact according to archaeologists.  With five finger holes and a V-shaped mouthpiece, this flute is made from the naturally hollow wing bone of a griffon vulture. This flute is about 0.3 inch wide and was originally about 13 inches long. The mammoth-ivory flutes would have been very challenging to make. Using only stone tools, the flute maker would have had to split a section of curved ivory along its natural grain. The two halves would then have been hollowed out, carved, and fitted together with an airtight seal. The flute bone was discovered in 1995 by Ivan Turk. It is believed that a Neanderthal made the bone because of its sophisticated nature. It is usually adapted to a right handed musician.

Michael Phelp's Swimming Record Broken by 21 year old swimmer.

Although Michael Phelps officially retired seven years ago, his record continued to top the sport of swimming ever since. That is until Sunday, when French 21-year-old Leon Marchand broke Phelps’ world record in the men’s 400-meter individual medley. Phelps set the old record of 4:03.84 at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Fifteen years later, Marchand shaved an impressive 1.34 seconds off for a new world record time of 4 minutes, 02.50 seconds. Marchand set the new mark on the first day of the World Aquatics Championships. It was the last individual record that Phelps held since retiring for good after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. “That was insane — one of the most painful things I’ve done,” Marchand said on the Olympics’ official website. “It was amazing to do it here and the time is crazy. The best is yet to come.” Afterward, he was appropriately presented with the gold medal by the legendary American swimmer. Marchand was just six years old when Phelps set the previous world record i...

All Political Party Activities in Niger have been suspended until further notice.

All political party activities in Niger have been suspended until further notice, army Colonel Amadou Abdramane said on state television Thursday, after the army declared allegiance to leaders of a coup that toppled the government.  The United Nations and the U.S. have called for the release of Niger's president Mohamed Bazoum, after a group of soldiers claimed to have removed him from power. Bazoum had earlier urged democratic forces in the country to resist the power grab. Plus, Russian president Vladimir Putin has told African leaders attending the Russia-Africa Summit in St. Petersburg that he'd gift them tens of thousands of grain within months despite Western sanctions, which he said made it difficult for Moscow to export its grain and fertilizers, and more.

Interesting Facts About the World's Fastest Land Animal, The Cheetah.

Here is one of my favorite quotes of all time. Joshua Aaron Guillory was spot on here: "Life is a snail ride. Move at your own pace. Do what you want to do. And also move like a cheetah when you feel like it. And strike like a lion. People will learn." You have probably seen this quote somewhere, and it gave you good feels like every motivational quote. I love it as well. Cheetahs are graceful beauties. They are distinct from other spotted wild cats. Their speed being their standout. It is common to confuse cheetahs with their feline cousins, leopards and jaguars. While cheetahs have solid black, round spots evenly dispersed across their body, leopards feature larger, more spread-out spots. On the other hand, jaguars sport rosettes that are larger than those of leopards. We have gathered interesting facts about cheetahs that might excite you. I hope you enjoy the read. 1. The fastest land animal is built for speed and not stamina. A cheetah chase usually lasts less tha...

10 Ways of Politely Calling Someone Stupid.

I bet you’ve met countless people whose lack of intelligence could be described as nothing less than surprising. You keep wondering if they even have a brain. You constantly resist the urge to call them stupid every single time they do something plain stupid? But you can’t because that’s very impolite. But how are they going to know they’re stupid if nobody mentions it? Well, you can subtly say it in more euphemistic ways. We thought it would be a good idea to compile the best ones for you to use. Have a great read. 1. I can explain it if you like, but I can't understand for you. 2. He needs to carry a plant to make up for the oxygen he is wasting. 3. A village somewhere is missing their idiot. 4. You aren't the biggest idiot in the word, but you better hope they don't die. 5. When it was raining brains, you had an umbrella. 6. History behind the inspiration for Barbie.

The inspiration for Barbie came from a German doll called Bild Lilli who was a popular comic strip character created by Reinhard Beuthien, appearing in the German tabloid newspaper "Bild" from 1952 to 1961. Lilli was a high-end call girl who used her charm and wit to seduce wealthy men. She was also known to rally against male authority. In one particular comic, a policeman warns Lilli about public indecency for wearing her bikini on the sidewalk to which she replies, “Oh, and in your opinion, what part should I take off?”  Ruth Handler, the co-founder of Mattel, discovered Bild Lilli during a trip to Europe in 1956. She purchased a few Lilli dolls as souvenirs and noticed that her daughter Barbara enjoyed playing with them. Ruth Handler saw potential in the adult-like, fashion-forward doll and got the idea to create a similar doll line that would appeal to young girls. Thus, the concept for Barbie was born. Her son, whose name was Kenneth, would later go on to inspire the ...

Why do we eat cake on birthdays?

No one is complaining about this tradition, but haven’t you always wondered why we do it?  The ancient Egyptians are actually credited with “inventing” the celebration of birthdays. They believed that when pharaohs were crowned gods, it represented their “birth” as a god and that the day needed to be celebrated.  The ancient Greeks borrowed the tradition and decided it would be even better with the addition of a sweet treat. They made moon-shaped pies to honor Artemis, goddess of the moon, and added lit candles to make the cakes shine like the moon. That’s where we get birthday candles from. Since the ingredients to make a cake were pretty expensive, the tradition didn’t become popular until around the Industrial Revolution, when the ingredients started to become more plentiful.

Any Rerun Poll Should Be Between Atiku and I - Tinubu Tells Court

Any Rerun Poll Should Be Between Atiku and I - Tinubu Tells Court  President Bola Tinubu has appealed to justices of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PREPEC) in Abuja to exclude the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, and his party in the event of any rerun presidential election, claiming that only him and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, are constitutionally qualified to recontest. Tinubu argued that if the justices void the February 25, 2023 presidential election, Obi and his party will not be qualified to recontest. But Obi urged the five-member panel of the PREPEC not to subvert the will of the people as expressed in the February 25 presidential election, stressing that they should sack Tinubu without further delay. Tinubu faulted both Obi and LP for asking the court to cancel the election and compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh poll in which he (Tinubu), Sh...

The best preserved Stadium of the Mediterranean: Stadium of Aphrodisias.

The Stadium of Aphrodisias, Asia Minor (Turkey) is considered the best preserved stadium in the Mediterranean. With a length of 262 meters, a width of 59 meters and a capacity of 30,000 spectators on 22 rows of seats, it is also one of the largest of its kind. Unlike, for example, the construction of the Perge stadium (also one of the largest stadiums in Asia Minor), the substructure of the rows of seats was largely made up of mounds of earth. This is an indication that the original building of the stadium was already built in Hellenistic times. Another special feature of this stadium is that it is closed on both narrow sides. Thus it differs clearly from the mostly horseshoe-shaped stadiums of the Roman Empire. The athletes entered the arena through a tunnel embedded in the narrow sides of the stadium. Above the western entrance tunnel was the emperor's box, from where he opened the games held in his honor. The stadium was originally crowned by a circumferential portico (colonnad...

SAF said they carried out an operation on Saturday in Omdurman, Sudan’s most populou...

History: Internment of Japanese Americans.

During World War 2, approximately 110,000 and 120,000 people of Japanese ancestry were forcibly relocated and incarcerated in internment camps. 62% of those interned were American citizens. These actions were ordered by President FDR after the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Editorials from major newspapers at the time were generally supportive of the internment. The LA Times editorial wrote:⁣ "A viper is nonetheless a viper wherever the egg is hatched... So, a Japanese American born of Japanese parents, nurtured upon Japanese traditions, living in a transplanted Japanese atmosphere...notwithstanding his nominal brand of accidental citizenship almost inevitably and with the rarest exceptions grows up to be a Japanese, and not an American... Thus, while it might cause injustice to a few to treat them all as potential enemies, I cannot escape the conclusion...that such treatment...should be accorded to each and all of them while we are at war with their race."⁣ How...

Suicide: "A coward's way of ending things?"

Too often we criticise those going through mental health struggles. There is no invigorating thrill that comes with being mentally drained. Depression is no joke, and different people have different ways of reacting to emotional stress. Some react in the saddest and emotive ways possible – sometimes resorting to inebriation, self-destruction, suicide or just completely shutting off.  There is no cowardic coping mechanism for dealing with depression.  There is nothing cowardly about wanting to end your life. There is nothing 'easy' about choosing to end your life.  If anything, it takes bigger balls than most people will ever have to even think about ending your own life. No one ends their lives for attention seeking reasons. They need attention in the sort of care, support and compassion. A lot of people who end their lives have been failed massively by the services who are meant to help and support them.  A lot of people who end their lives have also been surr...

Few things that make for a happy fulfilling life.

A lot of the things that make for a happy, healthy life are not complicated. They are simple, and even self-evident. We make them complicated in an effort to avoid the fact that they are sometimes uncomfortable: Self-awareness Moderation Effort Courage Discipline Communication Hygiene Patience Honesty Community Accountability These aren't some ancient secrets that "they" don't want you to know, or complicated scientific systems that you need to pay to learn. They're principles that we all inherently understand to some extent. They usually just involve some element of discomfort, humility, or denial of immediate gratification. A fulfilling life is simple. Don't make it complicated. Live your life for yourself, enjoy your peace. There would always be rainy, stormy, warm and extreme days with or without you. Live and experience life like it is for the last time, but then do it very wisely.
