Are We Born to Climb?

Is climbing as innate as sharing, copulating, greed, or even walking? Many evolutionary biologists would offer that the essence of climbing can be found in our DNA. It is hardwired into us, this desire to be in the vertical world. And beyond that desire, our bodies are built for the physical challenges of climbing. How did humans transform from tree swinging monkeys (the third chimpanzee) to plains walking hominids? Here is a glimpse into the evolutionary traits that allow us to freely climb, why we enjoy it, and why some of us are better than others. We currently share approximately 99% of our DNA with chimpanzees (believed to be our closest relative). Our genetics are expressed in all aspects of our physical, mental, social, and even spiritual lives. For example, alcoholics and smokers are genetically inclined to addiction.  There are genes in our DNA that are believed to express our level of need for explaining the world around us (spirituality). The amount of muscle on your for...

Celine Dion Makes First Public Appearance After Being Diagnosed With an Incurable disease.

Céline Dion marked her first public appearance in three and a half years by doing something unexpected — singing. The Canadian singer, aged 55, showcased her resilience despite the diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome.  She faced severe muscle spasms that posed significant challenges for her during her “Courage World Tour.” Despite her efforts to recover and get back to her peak condition, she continued to experience spasms. All future concert dates had to be rescheduled to 2023. Unfortunately, as her health struggles persisted, she ultimately decided to cancel the tour. “I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through. It hurts me to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my tour,” she announced. Recent...

The Kiss of Death ('El Peto De La Mort')

"The Kiss of Death' known as el Petó de la Mort is a sculpture created in 1930 for the tomb of textile manufacturer Josep Llaudet Soler.  The tomb is inscribed with a line verse by the Catalan poet Jacinto Verdaguer that translates to: “His young heart is thus extinguished. The blood in his veins grows cold. And all strength has gone. Faith has been extolled by his fall into the arms of death. Amen.” The masterful sculpting on el Petó de la Mort has made it a celebrated piece of funerary art. Delicate details carved into the marble capture both soft skin and the bony fingers of death. The piece is believed to have been sculpted by Jaume Barba, the artist whose name is carved into the base of the monument, though some have attributed its design to another artist, Joan Fontbernat. The Poblenou Cemetery, also known as Cementiri de l’Est (East Cemetery), was the first to be built outside the walls that marked the perimeter of medieval Barcelona.  A cemeter...
