Military take over saved Nigeria of an imminent disaster —Niger General Tchiani

General Abdourahmane Tchiani, the leader of the Niger Republic junta that took over the Nigerien government, has claimed that the military take over in his country saved Nigeria of an imminent disaster. Islamic scholars who met President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja on Friday met Tchiani on Saturday, August 12 to have talks in Niamey. According to Sheik Bala Lau, Chairman of Jam’atul Izalatu Bida Waikamatu Sunnah, Tchiani claimed the coup was well intended, adding that “they struck to starve off an imminent threat that would have affected not only Niger Republic but also Nigeria”. It is unclear what Tchiani meant as the statement did not go into details. But his claim came after the Nigerian Defence Headquarters said some persons were instigating the military to seize power in Nigeria. The Military however, said they are happy with democracy in Nigeria.

Oil marketers hint on price hike between N680/litre to N720/litre coming weeks  Oil marketers, on Sunday, indicated that the cost of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, would rise to between N680/litre and N720/litre in the coming weeks should the dollar continue to trade from N910 to N950 at the parallel market. They also hinted that dealers seeking to import PMS were being forced to put the plans on hold due to the scarcity of foreign exchange to import the commodity. Oil dealers said the CBN Importers and Exporters official window for foreign exchange, which boast of a lower exchange rate of about $740/litre, had remained illiquid and unable to provide the $25m to $30m required for the importation of PMS by dealers.
