Flood sacks school, residents of White Sand Estate after heavy downpour

Schools in White Sand Estate, Isheri-Osun in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, have closed their doors, advising students to stay at home as heavy rains and subsequent flooding have disrupted activities. White Sand Estate is one of the hardest-hit locations in Lagos, frequently experiencing severe flooding. Wednesday’s downpour rendered homes flooded, with water reaching mid-level heights inside residences. This severe flooding has left many residents trapped, unable to even sit down as their living spaces are submerged. In response to the flooding, a school located in the area (name withheld), sent messages to pupils, advising them to stay at home due to the hazardous conditions of the roads and the school. Two Bag Jail Terms for Internet Fraud in Lagos

  The Lagos Zonal Command of the   Economic and financial crimes commission EFCC, has secured the conviction and sentence of two internet fraudsters, Rauf Rokeeb Abayomi and Odeh Godspower, before Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos.   The suspects were arraigned on June 28, 2024, on separate charges bordering on internet fraud, contrary to and punishable under Section 22(3) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention etc) Act, 2015.   The charge against Ayobami reads: “That you, Rauf Rokeeb Ayobami (a.k.a Nasty Anabella), on or about the 10th day of May, 2024 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, directly made a false statement, wherein you held yourself out as a white woman by name "NASTY ANNABELLA" on your Facebook Account, knowing same to be false and with intent that the representation is relied upon for the purpose of procuring the issuance of financial instrument to yourself and thereby committed ...

Nobody will recognize Nigeria when President Tinubu completes his remaining seven years in office — Godswill Akpabio

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, in another public gaffe on Tuesday, said nobody would recognise Nigeria again by the time President Bola Tinubu completes his “seven years” in office, obviously gifting the latter a second term.  Akpabio weeks ago had said the old Nigerian national anthem was responsible for heightened banditry and insecurity in the country.  In his latest address, Akpabio on Tuesday told Nigerians not to worry about the challenges facing Nigeria but only pray for the success of the Tinubu’s administration, saying it would pay off in the next seven years. "Urgent Need to Avert Imminent Ecological Disaster on Residents of Trademore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja".

Yesterday, the Honourable Member representing Ikot Ekpene/Essien Udim/Obot Akara Federal Constituency, Dr. Patrick Umoh , laid two petitions on the floor of the House of Representatives on behalf of Umeh Kalu, SAN, and retired ASP Etim Udoh Nsot. The first petition, titled "Urgent Need to Avert Imminent Ecological Disaster on Residents of TradeMore Estate, Lugbe, Abuja," by Umeh Kalu, SAN, called on the House of Representatives to direct the Ecological Project Office and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to expand the three-cell tunnel bridge in front of Trademore Estate to an eight-cell tunnel bridge. This expansion is necessary to allow for the free flow of water from Garki, Pyakasa, Aleita Dam, and other areas through Trademore Estate. Kano Emirate Tussle: Court Adjourns Hearing To July 4

A Kano court has adjourned the hearing of the Emirate tussle between Aminu Bayero and Lamido Sanusi to July 4  to entertain all applications and originating motions.  The ongoing Kano Emirate tussle court case as of May 27th,  had the attorney general, speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, and the Kano State House of Assembly, asking the court to grant an order of interim injunction, restraining the 15th Emir, Bayero and four other dethroned emirs from parading themselves as emirs, has been adjourned at the kano state high court. During its sitting on the hearing of all pending applications, counsel to the applicants informed the court that he was served with five processes on July 1st around 7: 00 pm by the first respondent, and had filed all their responses and asked for a 30-minute stand down, to enable them serve the respondent.
