No E-Transmission: Senate Upholds Physical PVC, BVAS Rules in Electoral Bill

Nigerian Senate Rejects Mandatory Electronic Transmission of Election Results The Nigerian Senate has turned down proposed changes that would have mandated electronic transmission of election results. Instead, they have chosen to keep the current rules from the 2022 Electoral Act. During a plenary session on Wednesday, senators reviewed the Bill for an Act to Repeal the Electoral Act No. 13, 2022, and Enact the Electoral Act, 2025. A significant proposed clause, new Clause 60(5), aimed to require presiding officers to send polling unit results electronically in real time to INEC's IReV portal after completing Form EC8A. This proposal was rejected. The Senate decided to keep the 2022 framework. This framework requires results to be completed, signed, stamped, and distributed to party agents and security personnel manually. Results are announced at polling units and transferred "in a manner as prescribed by the Commission," without a requirement for electronic transmission...

Ryan Routh Gets Life Sentence Over Failed Assassination Plot Against Donald Trump

US District Judge Aileen Cannon sentenced Ryan Routh to life in prison, plus seven years, for trying to assassinate then-presidential candidate Donald Trump at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September 2024, according to reports. Cannon added the extra years for the firearms charge. Prosecutors said that Routh “remains totally unrepentant” as they pushed for a life sentence. Routh, 59, represented himself during the trial and was found guilty last year of all charges, including attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate and assaulting a federal officer. A Secret Service agent testified that he saw Routh aiming a rifle at him before Trump came into view. After the verdict last year, Routh reportedly tried to harm himself with a pen on his desk. This was the second assassination attempt against Trump in 2024 , following a shooting at a Pennsylvania rally where a bullet grazed the future president’s ear.

Tinubu Brokers Peace Again, Asks Wike to Halt Impeachment of Fubara

Tinubu Brokers Peace Again, Asks Wike to Halt Impeachment of Fubara • Rivers governor to recognize FCT minister as ‘political leader’   • Issue of Fubara’s second term is premature, Tinubu tells feuding parties   • Wike’s candidates to be recognized in state Assembly by-elections   President Bola Tinubu has stepped in again to ease the growing conflict between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This peace agreement follows months of failed attempts to settle their differences, which had nearly led to the governor's impeachment and caused significant instability in the state. Previously, in December 2023, Tinubu attempted to mediate the discord between Fubara and Wike. That fragile peace quickly fell apart, resulting in Tinubu declaring a six-month state of emergency in the state on March 18, 2025, and temporarily suspending the governor. In this recent bid to resolve one of Nigeria’s most intense political clashes, Tin...

Firefox 148 Introduces AI Kill Switch, Giving Users Full Control Over AI Features

With opinions on artificial intelligence still sharply divided, Mozilla recently announced plans to turn Firefox into an AI-powered browser—while reassuring users that AI features would remain entirely optional. Now, the company is backing up that promise. Starting with Firefox 148, scheduled for release later this month, Mozilla is introducing a long-awaited AI “kill switch”, giving users the ability to completely disable AI features if they choose. Beyond a single on/off option, Firefox also offers more detailed controls for users who prefer to fine-tune what AI tools they use—or don’t use. Firefox 148 will begin rolling out on February 24, and desktop users will see a new AI Controls section added to the browser’s settings. While Mozilla believes AI can enhance the browsing experience, it also acknowledges that AI isn’t for everyone—and it’s designing Firefox to respect that choice. For users who want to explore AI features, Firefox 148 launches with several AI-powered tools, includ...
