Ryan Routh Gets Life Sentence Over Failed Assassination Plot Against Donald Trump

US District Judge Aileen Cannon sentenced Ryan Routh to life in prison, plus seven years, for trying to assassinate then-presidential candidate Donald Trump at a golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, in September 2024, according to reports.

Cannon added the extra years for the firearms charge.

Prosecutors said that Routh “remains totally unrepentant” as they pushed for a life sentence.

Routh, 59, represented himself during the trial and was found guilty last year of all charges, including attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate and assaulting a federal officer.

A Secret Service agent testified that he saw Routh aiming a rifle at him before Trump came into view.

After the verdict last year, Routh reportedly tried to harm himself with a pen on his desk.

This was the second assassination attempt against Trump in 2024, following a shooting at a Pennsylvania rally where a bullet grazed the future president’s ear.
