President Bola Tinubu has been reelected as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Tinubu was re-elected at the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government which was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday. Speaking at the event, Tinubu reiterated that to counter insecurity and stabilise the region, recommendations set forth by ministers of defence must be met. “As we move to operationalise the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in combating terrorism, I must emphasise that the success of this plan requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources,” he told the gathering. “We must therefore ensure that we meet the expectations and recommendations set forth by our ministers of defence and finance in order to counter the insecurity and stabilise our region. “Member states must make extra commitments to providing resources for stabilising the region,” he added.

The Kogi State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of the Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen by another six months. This was part of the resolution of the state legislature during the house plenary on Friday. The extension of the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen is sequel to a letter to the House by the state Governor, Usman Ododo. Ododo said in the letter that paucity of funds, high wage bill are some of the reasons why Local Government election cannot be conducted in the state. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. The Court of Appeal has scheduled Thursday, July 4, to deliver the long-awaited judgment in the case between Martins Amaewhule-led lawmakers and Victor Oko-Jumbo-led legislators.
