An All Progressives Congress (APC ) aspirant for the Ondo governorship election Paul Akintelure is d£ad.  The spokesperson of the APC in Ondo State Alex Kalejaye confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation with Channels Television early Tuesday. The People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Abia state chapter, has accused Governor Alex Otti, of using the pension law to pursue vendetta against former Governors and former Deputy Governors of the state. Otti had last week revoked the state law which grants pension to former governors and former deputy governor. The party stated that it cannot understand why Governor Otti who has not paid pension to any of his predecessors would quickly rush to repeal the law if not to massage his ego and portray himself as a saint and buy cheap popularity. Senate passes Student Loan Act Bill

  The Senate on Wednesday, March 20, passed the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024. The resolution of the Senate followed its consideration of the report of the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND that considered the Bill. The chairman of the committee, Senator Muntari Dandutse (APC – Katsina South) presented the report during plenary. President Bola Tinubu had last week transmitted the Bill to the National Assembly for its consideration and passage. The Senate had given the Bill accelerated hearing by suspending relevant sections of its standing rules and referred the Bill to the Committee of the Whole for consideration. President Bola Tinubu’s government has demanded that the world’s largest cryptocurrency platform, Binance, provide a list of the top 100 Nigerian users and their transaction details on the platform before detained officials are released. “Nigeria is pressing Binance for information on its top 100 users in the country, as well as all transaction history for the past six months,” Financial Times reported on Tuesday. According to the newspaper, the request is at the centre of negotiations between Binance and Nigeria, which sees the company as a crucial link undermining government efforts to stabilise its currency, the naira. The Kano State Hisbah Board has apprehended 11 Muslims for violating the Ramadan fast by eating during the day. The arrests were made during the annual Ramadan enforcement operations, which included searches of eateries and markets. The board’s Public Relations Officer, Lawal Ibrahim, who confirmed the arrests in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service monitored on Wednesday, said the arrests were made on Tuesday across the city, particularly near markets. “The individuals arrested include 10 men and one woman, who was caught eating from her groundnut-selling stall,” he said. The Federal Government has postponed the launch of the Nigerian Students Loan Scheme indefinitely. Akintunde Sawyer, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), stated this in an interview with Arise News. The loan which was formally slated to take off on Thursday, March 14, 2024, has been postponed again, as there are some corrections that are being made around the launch according to Sawyer. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to commit to a specific date.
