Advocacy Group Urges Tinubu to Reinstate Suspended NSIPA National Coordinator Amidst Allegations

The suspension of Halima Shehu Kafin Dangi, former National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), by President Bola Ahmad Tinubu has ignited a storm of controversy, with the "One-on-One Campaign Coordinator for Tinubu/Dikko 2023-2027" group calling for her immediate reinstatement.

Transitioning from a successful career in banking to politics in 2010, Mrs. Shehu served as the Senior Special Assistant to former Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina State, demonstrating her commitment to public service. However, her suspension by President Tinubu, allegedly due to financial mismanagement amounting to ₦44 billion, has drawn fierce criticism from her supporters, who argue that the allegations are baseless and motivated by gender rivalry.

The spotlight has also turned to Minister Betta Edu, Mrs. Shehu's superior, who is likewise suspended and facing investigation for alleged financial irregularities. Supporters allege that Minister Edu's actions have been influenced by personal animosity rather than genuine concerns about financial accountability.

In a recent briefing, Comrade Kabir Ahmad Rimi, the coordinator of the advocacy group, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure fairness and justice. He highlighted Mrs. Shehu's exemplary record during her tenure at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, where she spearheaded the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme and implemented innovative measures such as digitization, benefiting over 2 million vulnerable individuals.

The call for Mrs. Shehu's reinstatement underscores broader concerns about the handling of corruption allegations within government agencies and the urgent need for transparency and accountability in public service. As pressure mounts on President Tinubu to address these grievances, the outcome of the ongoing investigation will undoubtedly have far-reaching implications for the future of governance and integrity in Nigeria.
