Federal government of Nigeria has imposed a mandatory annual levy for organisations employing expat workers. They will be required to pay $15,000 (£12,000) for a director and $10,000 for other categories. The aim is to encourage foreign companies to employ more Nigerians.

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the full implementation of the Stephen Oronsaye report.⁣ The Oronsaye report proposed a leaner government by merging some agencies and scrapping many others. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is considering raising the minimum capital requirements for Bureau De Change (BDC) operators to N2 billion for Tier 1 licenses and N500 million for Tier 2 licenses. It was previously N35 million for a general license. The updated regulations encompass numerous modifications to the guidelines governing BDC activities within the nation. Once approved, these updated guidelines will come into effect on a date determined by the CBN. Tier 1 operators must maintain a minimum share capital of N2 billion and also submit a Mandatory Caution Deposit of N200 million. The fee for application is N1 million, while the license fee amounts to N5 million. In Tier 2, operators are required to possess a minimum share capital of N500 million and maintain a Mandatory Caution Deposit of N50 million. Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have arrested seven notorious kidnappers in Abuja, recovering N9 million ransom. The police commissioner in FCT, CP Benneth Igweh, while parading the suspects at the command on Wednesday, said the wanted kidnappers were arrested by operatives of the Utako police division led by CSP Victor Godfrey in a coordinated operation at Tudun – Wada Lugbe and Pyakasa area of Trademore. He gave the names of the wanted kidnappers as Usman Muazu from Kwali, FCT, Aliyu Mohammed, from Pumpomare area of Borno state, Awwal Dahiru, who hails from Gwagwalada area council of the FCT, Rabi Sani, from Safana, Katsina state and Madina Abubakar, from Gulu, Lapai local government area of Niger state. Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar-led Northern Traditional Council, has warned that rising poverty, hunger and insecurity in the country will force people to revolt against President Bola Tinubu’s government very soon, Peoples Gazette is reporting. “It is getting to a level that traditional leaders could no longer pacify the people from revolting against government and political leaders that are supposed to find solutions to their lingering socio-economic plight,” Mr Sa’ad said. “We have reached that level, people are very agitated, people are hungry, they are angry, but they still believe there are people who can talk to them, they believe in some of their Governors, some other traditional rulers and some of their religious leaders, fortunately some of us double as traditional and religious leaders.”

That is according to the Telegraph, who reveal that the game’s lawmakers, International Football Association Board (Ifab), has signed off on the new card, that would be the first since the debut of the yellow and red card at the 1970 World Cup. The move, which will be announced on Friday, by Ifab is part of sin-bin protocols, which will see players removed from the pitch for 10 minutes if they commit a cynical foul or show dissent towards a match official. A cynical foul will be deemed one that prevents a promising attack. Two blue cards, like current yellows, will add up to a red card, while a combination of blue and yellow will also lead to dismissal. Initial testing will not take place in the professional game, in case further refinement is needed, but elite trials could begin as soon as this summer according to the report.

The Federal Government said members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are no longer posted to states deemed unsafe in the wake of worsening security conditions in the country. Several corps members have been abducted in some parts of the country during their one-year mandatory national service, raising fears about the sustainability of the scheme. But the Minister of Youth Jamila Ibrahim says the scheme has taken steps to secure NYSC members including posting them only to safe states. “As an immediate intervention of the government and the NYSC as an agency, we have actually stopped posting corps members to the very unsafe states,” Jamila said on Channels Television’s current affairs show Sunday Politics. “We have been doing it. We have been doing it in the past. There are states we have not been posting corps members to to ensure their safety,” she added. Police operatives are searching the bushes in Olamaboro in Kogi State, on a mission to rescue passengers kidnapped by bandits.

Reports indicate the assailants hijacked two commercial vehicles in Inele Eteke Ogugu new road and made way with the vehicles and the passengers  The commercial vehicles belonging to God is God and ABC Transport left Lagos enroute to Abuja before it was ambushed. The Police in Kogi State say the DPO, Local Vigilantes and Hunters have been in the bushes in an effort to rescue the victims.  The police command has also deployed additional Tactical Squad comprising  Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Couter-Terrorism Unit, on the rescue mission. Its unclear how many passengers were on the vehicle at the time of the incident.

As early as 7am on Monday, a group of women blocked Minna-Bida Road at the popular Kpakungu roundabout to express their grievances over the rising cost of food items. They were later joined by men, who stopped vehicles from moving. Efforts by the police to control the crowd almost resulted in violence as protesters asked police to leave, forcing the police to fire several shots in the air. One of the youths, Ibrahim Gana, said rice was sold at the cost of N2,000 per mudu at Minna markets while maize was N1, 000 per measure. “The Federal Government needs to take action to reduce the hardship being faced by the poor Nigerians.
