Police Arrest Popular Northern Businessman , Bashir Hadeja With Gold Belonging To Libyan Central Bank  (Photos)  Police authorities have arrested an influential northern businessman, Bashir Hadeja, over alleged treason, gun running and other trans-border crimes. Visblog understands that, Hadeja who hails from Kaduna state, was arrested following information that he smuggled large catches of weapons along with large bars of gold believed to have been stolen from the Central Bank of Libya. EFCC’s X (twitter) account not hacked – Spokesman

The Economic and Financial Crimes Crime Commission has denied its X account (formerly Twitter) had been hacked. There are speculations that suspected internet fraudsters who threatened to wage cyber warfare against the EFCC had hacked the anti-graft agency’s X account. According to reports, some internet fraudsters had accused the anti-graft commission of disregarding constitutional norms in cracking down on dubious activities among Nigerians online. Checks on the account on Thursday morning showed that the account was not available. However, the agency’s website and other social media pages, such as Facebook and Instagram, were functional. Speaking in an interview with our correspondent on Thursday, the EFCC’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, said the glitch was as a result of an update done on the agency’s account. He assured that the account would soon be accessible to the populace. Oyewale said, “We are updating our records on the account. It was not hacked. It will soon start running.”

10-year Jail Term, ₦5m Fine Await Nigerians Who Don’t Recite New National Anthem

The House of Representatives has introduced the Counter Subversion Bill 2024, proposing harsh penalties for Nigerians who refuse to recite the national anthem, destroy national symbols, or deface places of worship. The bill, sponsored by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, was read in the chamber for the first time on July 23, 2024. Under the proposed legislation, individuals who refuse to recite the national anthem face a fine of ₦5 million, a 10-year prison sentence, or both. According to Sahara Reporters, the bill also extends this punishment to anyone found guilty of destroying national symbols or defacing a place of worship with intent to incite violence.
