The Presidents of these three West African States have officially  engaged their nations in the creation of the Confederation of Sahel States called “AES”. President Tinubu re-elected ECOWAS Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has been reelected as the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Tinubu was re-elected at the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government which was held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday. Speaking at the event, Tinubu reiterated that to counter insecurity and stabilise the region, recommendations set forth by ministers of defence must be met. “As we move to operationalise the ECOWAS Standby Force (ESF) in combating terrorism, I must emphasise that the success of this plan requires not only strong political will but also substantial financial resources,” he told the gathering. “We must therefore ensure that we meet the expectations and recommendations set forth by our ministers of defence and finance in order to counter the insecurity and stabilise our region. “Member states must make extra commitments to providing resources for stabilising the region,” he added.

Rivers: I can’t be distracted – Gov Fubara

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State on Saturday said his administration would not be distracted from delivering good governance to the people of the state. Fubara disclosed this to journalists after being conducted around the entire premises and structures of the Zonal Hospital, Degema Town in the Degema Local Government Area of the state. Kogi Assembly Extends Tenure Of LG Transition Committee Chairmen By Six Months.

The Kogi State House of Assembly has extended the tenure of the Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen by another six months. This was part of the resolution of the state legislature during the house plenary on Friday. The extension of the tenure of the Transition Committee Chairmen is sequel to a letter to the House by the state Governor, Usman Ododo. Ododo said in the letter that paucity of funds, high wage bill are some of the reasons why Local Government election cannot be conducted in the state. Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Umar Yusuf, who read the letter, charged the transition committee chairmen to be good ambassadors of their respective local governments. “In the next six months, it will be interesting at the local government level as there will be mostly submission of reports to the Assembly.
