An Enugu State High Court has sentenced Chiamaka Ifezue to d£ath by hanging for the m¥rder of a 27-year-old makeup artist, Ijeoma Nneke.  The court presided over by Honourable Justice Kenneth Okpe, in a two-hour judgement on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, found the accused, Chiamaka Ifezue, guilty of k!!ling the victim by forcing her to drink a p@isonous substance.  Recall that Ijeoma went missing after leaving home for a job on November 11, 2020.  Her mutilated c@rpse was later found around Maryland in Enugu metropolis on November 16.  Ifezue and her brother, Chukwuemeka, were arrested and arraigned before the court on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and m¥rder in 202.  They were accused of forcing Nneke to drink a p@isonous substance that caused her death. The suspects allegedly dumped her body in the Maryland axis of the Enugu metropolis and poured a corrosive substance suspected to be acid on it During the trial, Justice Okpe discharged Chukwuemeka ...

She narrated: “This was 15th December 2023. I went to collect my posting letter. While I was going there I hit my leg against a stone and I felt it was normal. Though the pain was intense as at when I hit it and I cried. “Later I went to the bank to collect my ATM to the account NYSC open for me and I started feeling pain in my right leg. That’s when stroke happened to me. “Before I knew it it was getting worse to the extent I could not stand. They had to help me to the car. The woman said maybe I dislocated an ankle. “So I headed to the bone doctor that was taking care of me during the stroke period when it was very intense. “I got here and you will not believe it. The man said he sent the leg pain through the stone that I hit my leg on so I can pay him his remaining N50,000. “Guy! I was shocked but I was still pained because I was the one that didn’t pay him his remaining money but guys this happens for real.”

The Federal Government said members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are no longer posted to states deemed unsafe in the wake of worsening security conditions in the country. Several corps members have been abducted in some parts of the country during their one-year mandatory national service, raising fears about the sustainability of the scheme. But the Minister of Youth Jamila Ibrahim says the scheme has taken steps to secure NYSC members including posting them only to safe states. “As an immediate intervention of the government and the NYSC as an agency, we have actually stopped posting corps members to the very unsafe states,” Jamila said on Channels Television’s current affairs show Sunday Politics. “We have been doing it. We have been doing it in the past. There are states we have not been posting corps members to to ensure their safety,” she added. Fiery Enugu priest, Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, on Sunday, tackled the President Bola Tibubu administration over the level of insecurity and hardship in Nigeria. Mbaka, who said there were many obstacles on Tinubu’s way to becoming the president, including the Naira redesign policy, said he succeeded by an act of providence. He, however, said the president was yet to exhibit political will towards solving the country’s problems. He singled out corruption in the oil sector, which he said was under a certain cabal, but regretted that President Tinubu was yet to go against them. Reports indicate the assailants hijacked two commercial vehicles in Inele Eteke Ogugu new road and made way with the vehicles and the passengers  The commercial vehicles belonging to God is God and ABC Transport left Lagos enroute to Abuja before it was ambushed. The Police in Kogi State say the DPO, Local Vigilantes and Hunters have been in the bushes in an effort to rescue the victims.  The police command has also deployed additional Tactical Squad comprising  Quick Response Unit, Police Mobile Force, Couter-Terrorism Unit, on the rescue mission. Its unclear how many passengers were on the vehicle at the time of the incident.
