2 Seven-Eleven employees beat robber with stick until he starts crying.

A video shared online recently showed a man with his head and face covered in a blue t-shirt grabbing a trash can and then stuffing it with boxes of tobacco products. The man taking the video politely asks the suspect to get him "a swisher," but the suspect ignored his request. The suspect continues to stuff the trash can while cussing people out and then threatening to shoot the workers. The man taking the video repeatedly tells the workers "ain't nothing you can do" as the suspect was trying to steal hundreds of dollars worth of items. But at one point in the video, as the suspect tried to scoot by one of the workers, a scuffle ensued and the second 7-Eleven worker grabbed a stick and started beating the suspect. The suspect starts crying and begs the worker to stop beating him, telling everyone he can't walk anymore. "That's called whooping your ***," the guy taking the video shouted in the video. The man taking the video ultimately escorted...

Story of Douglas Brent, the American navy officer who was named "The Incredibly Stupid".

Douglas Brent was an American Navy petty officer who was taken captive during the Vietnam War, he was considered dumb by his captors and they gave him the nickname "The Stupid".  He acted like an imbecile, refusing to speak,  instead he continuously hummed a song. Throughout his imprisonment, he remained in a similar state, to the extent that the Vietnamese captors believed he had some form of cognitive impairment. When asked to write statements against the United States, he agreed, but pretended to be unable to read or write, which was believable to his Vietnamese captors.  Thinking they had someone who would be easily turned to their cause, they assigned someone to teach Brent to read. After Hegdahl appeared to be incapable of learning to read and write, his captors gave up on him. Later, he came to be known to the Vietnamese as "The Incredibly Stupid One", and he was given nearly free run of the camp. Brent also convinced his captors that he needed new glasses a...

Can drinking too much water be dangerous?

Water toxicity has been in the news lately after a mother of two died from chugging down too much water. Similarly, a TikToker was hospitalized from "drinking an excessive amount of water" while trying a viral fitness challenge. Water toxicity can occur when someone drinks water faster than their body can process, which is about 1 liter per hour. An excessive amount of water can cause “real damage” as it throws off the balance of your blood. It’s rare to reach a severe stage of water toxicity that results in death. Symptoms of water toxicity include nausea, vomiting, headache, muscle cramping, body weakness, brain fog, lethargy, and vision changes like double vision or blurry vision. It’s important to gradually stay hydrated throughout a hot day or throughout a workout. Women should be drinking about 2.5 liters of water an entire day, and men should be drinking 3.5 liters of water per day. Steady hydration is healthy, the kidneys cannot handle excessive water just about ...

English Words You Didn’t Know That Come From Arabic.

Arabic is one of the most ancient and beautifully scripted languages. It is spoken by nearly 400 million users, placing it among the most 5 spoken languages in the world. Its influence on Spanish since the time of the Moors is well known, but what’s less well known is how many commonly used English words were actually taken from Arabic. English didn’t borrow all of the words directly; they mostly came filtered through Latin, Turkish, French, Spanish, German, and/or Italian, and have changed in form — and sometimes meaning — since they left Arabic. Here is a list: 1. Zeno The electronic device you’re reading this on wouldn’t exist without digital programming, which wouldn’t exist without the number 0 (zero), which — believe it or not — Europeans didn’t think of as a number until the Italian mathematician Fibonacci introduced it to them in the early 1200s. He learned it from Arabic culture in North Africa, where he grew up. He took the Arabic word sifr, meaning “empty” or “...
