The Rivers State Government has strongly condemned a planned press conference by some National Assembly lawmakers and former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, describing it as an attempt to mislead the public on the true situation in the state. In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, the government accused the group, led by former Speaker Martin Amaewhule, of distorting facts regarding their status as lawmakers. The statement reaffirmed that Amaewhule and 26 others automatically lost their seats after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on December 11, 2023. The Anambra state police command says it has recovered the decomposing body of the abducted Anambra state house of assembly member who was kidnapped during last Christmas on his way to his village. The Lawmaker Hon Justice Azuka who represents the people of Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra state house of assembly, was abducted on Tuesday December 24th, 2024. The abducted Lawmaker who is a chieftain of the Labour party, had regained his mandate after a court ruling ousted the previous winner and candidate of the People's Democratic Party who was initially declared winner.
