Fresh controversy has erupted over the actions of the Department of State Services (DSS) during Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s ongoing trial at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
According to Favour Michael Kanu, wife of Prince Emmanuel Kanu, the DSS has allegedly introduced a new tactic to delay the IPOB leader’s entry into the courtroom until the presiding judge arrives. She claims this move is deliberately aimed at preventing journalists, observers, and supporters from seeing or photographing Kanu.
“New style: They’d delay MNK’s entry into the court till the judge is around, so no one gets to snap or record MNK before the court rises,” she said in a statement.
The allegation adds to a long list of complaints by Kanu’s family and legal representatives, who have repeatedly raised concerns about transparency, human rights violations, and restricted access to legal counsel while the IPOB leader remains in DSS custody.
Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been detained since 2021, following his controversial rendition from Kenya. He now represents himself in court after dismissing his legal team, insisting that the court lacks jurisdiction to prosecute him under both international and Nigerian laws.
