Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly written to former U.S. President Donald Trump, calling attention to what he described as an ongoing “Judeo-Christian genocide” in Nigeria.
In the letter, Kanu appealed to Trump and the U.S. government to intervene in the alleged systematic persecution and mass killings of Christians and ethnic minorities in parts of Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt and southeastern regions.
Kanu accused the Nigerian government of turning a blind eye to “religiously motivated attacks” and claimed that security forces have failed to protect Christian communities from extremist violence. He further argued that the situation has reached genocidal proportions, comparing it to some of the darkest chapters of modern history.
“What is happening in Nigeria is not just tribal or political—it is a deliberate extermination of Judeo-Christian people,” Kanu allegedly wrote, urging the U.S. to take decisive diplomatic and humanitarian action.
This comes amid increasing international concern over human rights violations in Nigeria, following reports of church burnings, mass displacement, and attacks attributed to armed groups in the northern and central regions.
As of press time, the Nigerian government has not issued an official response to Kanu’s letter.
