Tech giant Google has announced plans to acquire Wiz, a fast-growing cloud cybersecurity company, in a massive $32 billion cash deal — the largest acquisition in Google’s history.
The deal, unveiled on March 18, 2025, will see Wiz join Google Cloud, the tech company’s enterprise division focused on cloud computing and data security. The acquisition is aimed at strengthening Google’s position in the fast-evolving cloud and cybersecurity market, where competition with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure is fierce.
Founded in 2020 by Israeli entrepreneurs, Wiz quickly rose to prominence for its multi-cloud security platform, which allows companies to monitor and protect workloads across different cloud providers — including AWS, Azure, Oracle, and Google Cloud.
By acquiring Wiz, Google is betting big on security as the cornerstone of the cloud business, especially as global enterprises increasingly adopt multi-cloud and hybrid IT strategies.
According to Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, the move will “help customers secure their data and workloads across any cloud environment” while maintaining Wiz’s independent, cloud-agnostic approach.
Antitrust Scrutiny
The $32 billion deal — Alphabet’s largest ever — drew attention from regulators, particularly the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), which launched an antitrust review to ensure the acquisition does not harm competition in the cybersecurity industry.
However, as of November 2025, reports indicate that the deal has cleared DOJ review, paving the way for full integration of Wiz into Google Cloud’s operations.
Experts say the acquisition could reshape the cybersecurity landscape:
For Google Cloud: The deal boosts Google’s appeal to enterprise customers by enhancing its built-in security offerings.
For Wiz customers: Google says Wiz’s tools will continue to support all major cloud platforms, ensuring minimal disruption.
For competitors: The move raises pressure on AWS and Microsoft to strengthen or acquire their own security platforms.
The purchase of Wiz is a strong signal that security has become the new battleground in the cloud war. As businesses face growing threats from cyber-attacks and data breaches, demand for unified, AI-driven protection tools is soaring — and Google wants to lead that race.
With Wiz under its umbrella, Google positions itself not just as a cloud provider but as a global cybersecurity powerhouse. The acquisition could redefine how enterprises secure their digital infrastructure — and mark the beginning of a new era in cloud innovation.
