China Warns Against Foreign Interference in Nigeria’s Affairs After US Military Threat

The Chinese government has issued a strong warning against foreign interference in Nigeria’s internal affairs following US President Donald Trump’s recent threat of military action over alleged persecution of Christians in the country.

Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Mao Ning, spokesperson of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Beijing remains a steadfast ally of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, emphasizing China’s respect for Nigeria’s sovereignty and development path.

“As Nigeria’s comprehensive strategic partner, China firmly opposes any country using religion and human rights as an excuse to interfere in other countries’ internal affairs, and threatening other countries with sanctions and force,” Mao stated.

The spokesperson reaffirmed that China “firmly supports the Tinubu administration as it leads its people on a development path suited to its national conditions.”China’s position reflects its long-standing policy of non-interference in other nations’ domestic issues, a principle it has maintained in its relations with African countries, including Nigeria.

Political analysts say Beijing’s statement underscores its commitment to strengthening Nigeria–China relations, especially in trade, infrastructure, and defense cooperation, while countering Western influence in African geopolitics.

As of press time, the Nigerian government has not issued an official response to China’s remarks or the US threat.

Visblog News will continue to provide verified updates as reactions unfold in Abuja, Washington, and Beijing.
