The Federal Government College in Rubochi, FCT, has produced a robot prototype known as the "Ruby Waiter-Bot" by some of its students.
When presenting their invention to the Federal Ministry of Education in Abuja on Tuesday, the students claimed that it would aid in resolving important national issues.
The robot, according to SSS3 student Ephraim Okpara, is made up of 70% recycled materials.
The primary objective of today's project was to gather and utilise recyclable materials, which are readily available in the environment. The Coderina Educational Foundation provided robotic kits, which we also used.
He thinks the robot would make some tasks quicker and simpler.
According to another student in SSS1, Goodluck Ogbole, "The idea of the robot was created out of the challenge of one of our mothers who is a caterer and usually has problems getting personnel to serve the food at her restaurant."
We got this idea, so we got together as a team to talk about how to build this robot to solve these issues so that food can be served more quickly and easily, he said.
The students were praised by Mr. David Adejo, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, who also urged them to commercialise their inventions and pledged to provide the necessary support.
"The problem is that we don't link development to research," In order for students to be more receptive to new ideas, we must engage them. What you can do with your brain, not your degree, determines where the world is going, he said.
Nigeria is endowed with talent, according to Mr. Femi Niyi, chairman of the board of trustees of the Coderina Education and Technology Foundation, who also claimed that "what took other countries five to six years to develop, a Nigerian could produce such within two years."
