Abia PDP Chairman Amah Abraham says there is no faction in the party, recognizes Nyesom Wike as leader, and reveals PDP may not field a presidential candidate in 2027.
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Amah Abraham, has dismissed claims of division within the party, insisting that there is only one recognized structure — the “mainstream” faction led by Nyesom Wike.
Speaking on Monday, Abraham made it clear that the party remains united under what he described as the legally recognized leadership.
According to him, narratives suggesting a factional crisis within the PDP are misleading and should be disregarded.
“I plead with Arise management to remove this issue of faction. This is the mainstream of the party, as recognized by the law,” he said.
Abraham stressed that Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is not leading a faction but the legitimate structure of the party.
He added that this position is backed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and relevant court interpretations.
“This is the mainstream, and Nyesom Wike today is the national leader of the mainstream of the Peoples Democratic Party,” he stated.
PDP May Not Field Candidate in 2027
In a surprising development, Abraham also revealed that the PDP, under the current leadership, may not present a presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
Instead, he indicated that the party has aligned with the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu, who is expected to seek re-election under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“As it stands, the PDP will have no presidential candidate for the 2027 general election as it has adopted the candidate of the APC,” Abraham said.
He noted that discussions are ongoing within the party and suggested that members who disagree with this direction are free to pursue their ambitions elsewhere.
Despite Abraham’s position, reports of internal disagreements within the PDP persist. Some groups within the party — including those believed to be aligned with Seyi Makinde — are said to be pushing for reconciliation, a fresh convention, or the emergence of an independent presidential candidate.
However, Abraham maintained that the focus should be on the recognized structure and its chosen direction ahead of the next general elections.
