, has taken a swipe at the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying he will “continue contesting for President on social media, not Nigeria.”
Wike made the remark on Thursday during the commissioning of newly constructed roads in Mabushi District, Abuja, following Obi’s recent criticism of the poor state of public schools in the FCT.
Peter Obi’s Criticism on Education
During his visit to LEA Primary School, Kapwa, on Wednesday, Obi decried the school’s condition, describing it as “a national disgrace” and a reflection of Nigeria’s “empty commitment to education.”
He lamented the lack of chairs, toilets, and other essential facilities, emphasizing that the situation reflects the government’s misplaced priorities in basic education.
Wike Fires Back
In a fiery response, Wike accused Obi of playing politics with everything, alleging that the former governor often engages in emotional public appearances to gain sympathy online.
“I hear one of the social media presidential candidates visited a local school and claimed the government had abandoned public education. His name is Mr. Peter Obi. It’s not everything you must play politics with,” Wike stated.
The FCT Minister also questioned Obi’s performance as governor of Anambra State, claiming that he failed to complete major projects during his tenure and even had disagreements with his successor.
“Peter Obi governed Anambra for eight years. If he had done everything right, no one would still be talking about developing the state today. Why did you even fall out with your successor?” Wike asked.
“I’ve Done More in Two Years Than You Did in Eight”
Wike went on to boast about his achievements since assuming office as FCT Minister, saying his two-year record surpasses Obi’s eight years as governor.
“We’ve been in office for just two years, not even four yet. Compare our work in the FCT with your eight years in Anambra. Can you truly say you love this country or your people? Certainly not,” he said.
“You’ll Keep Contesting Online” — Wike Declares
The Minister further dismissed Obi’s presidential aspirations, suggesting that a man who “couldn’t manage a political party” cannot manage a country of over 200 million citizens.
“You will continue to contest for President on social media, not as President of Nigeria. You couldn’t even manage your own party. How can you manage a country of over 200 million people? It’s not available for people like you,” Wike concluded.
