ASUU is set to summon an emergency meeting following a decision of the FG to pay the lecturers half their salaries for the month of October.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU is set to summon an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council, following a decision of the Federal Government to pay the lecturers half their salaries for the month of October.

Many lecturers reported receiving half salaries although it was not clear if it was a coordinated action from the Federal Government. Chairman of the ASUU branch at the University of Lagos, Dele Ashiru, described the October salaries as “amputated and crippled” payments.

ASUU President Emmanuel Osodeke also confirmed this in an interview saying he learned that the Minister of Labor and Employment, Chris Ngige wrote the office of the Accountant General and Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system to only pay for the period the strike was called off. Recall that ASUU was on strike for about eight months this year.
