You don’t have to believe this, but clout brings followers.

To gain social capital, then you have to be innately controversial or just inorganically become enmeshed in a whirlwind of intermittent controversy.

Controversy, clout chasing, and then incessant healthy or unhealthy giveaways draws people to your wall or account like sugar draws ants.

Humans are like that.

And this is fed by one of the most strongest emotions, the need to want to know — curiosity.

And this is what curiosity does, away from the corridors of fear; go knock at a neighbors house and when the usual ‘who is that’ is asked refuse to answer.

You neighbor may not open the door at the first ring, but try this a few more times without answering back to the question from behind the door, trust me they will open up. Why? Curiosity.

The only difference between social capital garnered through pure skill and enviable talent, and one garnered through clout chasing and controversy is that the former invites people who respect you and choose their words even when they disagree with you, but the latter mostly are a bunch of mannerless and uncouth humans, who don’t even have a pinch of respect for your person, and are there just to stir and enjoy the scenes of troublemaking.
