Physical attraction is important, but lasting relationships are built on character, peace, and values. Choosing substance over spec leads to stronger, healthier, and more fulfilling marriages.
As you grow older, you begin to understand that physical “spec” isn’t everything. Big curves, flawless looks, tall-dark-and-handsome vibes, and Instagram-perfect filters may catch your attention, but they are not what build a home or raise children.
This is not to say that physically attractive people cannot make great partners. Beauty is a blessing, and there’s nothing wrong with appreciating aesthetics. A little vanity can make life colorful and exciting.
But here’s the truth: substance sustains what attraction starts.
It is easier to teach someone with character how to improve their appearance than to teach someone focused only on appearance how to develop depth, kindness, and integrity.
The same applies to both men and women. You are not marrying a mannequin. You are not marrying Instagram filters. You are marrying a human being — with strengths, weaknesses, and emotions.
Physical attraction matters, but attraction evolves. What you think is your “type” today may simply be what you are currently drawn to — not necessarily what you truly need.
There is a difference between what you are attracted to and what you genuinely love.
Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God. — Proverbs 31:30 (MSG)
Replace “woman” with “man” if you are a woman. Beauty fades. Trends change. Filters disappear. But character, peace, integrity, and values build legacies.
Spec can be deceptive. Choose wisely.
