Politics The Game Of Interest And Numbers.

In politics, nothing happens by chance...

I have read from several fora wherein the National Chairman of APC Sen. Abdulahi Adamu was singled out for mockery and blame over his stand on Sen. Ahmed Lawan as the Party's consensus presidential candidate for today's convention of the ruling party.
If you have been in the corridors of power, you will understand the power play that is happening.
The moment he was chosen to be Chairman of the ruling party, he already agreed to be the fall guy should any decision of the President goes wrong .
I can bet he conveyed the stand of the President to the NWC of the party. That the President denied is still part of the bigger picture. Aliyu cannot come out to say the President lied. His momentary silence shows he understands the dilemma he is in. At least, Lawan knows Buhari tried for him and the blame can therefore be shifted to the Northern Governors.
The Governors understand that, that was why they went straight to the President to confront him as a united interest group instead of going to the National Chairman. Even Buhari knows Lawan won't fly, he only played a kite. As usual, our Buhari wants to be seen as a democrat.
The Governors already have an understanding with the President. That he asked for 5 aspirants from them is still part of the chess game. He must've asked them to pencil those names. They won't tell you that but I can also bet he did. The reason for that is not farfetched. It paints the Governors as selfless leaders who did not pitch their tent with a particular aspirant which will help them in the reconciliation process. Then, the President can act and shift the decision as usual to the Governors. However, his decision might not be made public but will become the outcome of the voting process.
Tinubu is no longer in the picture. The release from the Presidency over his outburst in Abeokuta settled that. Politicians in the system already read the signs in that press release that singled Tinubu out for backlash. But, he will forever blame Osibanjo and Fayemi for limiting his chances going by the list. The arguement is simple, If Osibanjo was not in the picture, it would've increased his chances. Then, it makes it easier for President to go for Amaechi or Umahi since they are sole aspirants from their region in that list.
Amaechi will likely carry the day. Osibanjo's candidacy will elicit bad blood from Tinubu's camp and APC doesn't need that at the moment.
