Tinubu Urges Peaceful APC Primaries, Warns Against ‘Do-Or-Die’ Politics

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appealed to aspirants and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to maintain peace and unity as the ruling party begins its nationwide primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement personally signed on Thursday, the President described the commencement of the APC primaries as another important milestone in the party’s political journey since its establishment.

Tinubu noted that the APC had continued to grow through internal cooperation, discipline and commitment to democratic principles, adding that the party’s success depends heavily on how members conduct themselves during the primary process.

Tinubu Calls For Unity Among Aspirants

The President urged all aspirants contesting for various positions under the APC platform to avoid actions capable of creating unnecessary tension or division within the party.

“We must avoid bitterness and the temptation of do-or-die politics. Our strength lies in our unity and commitment to democratic values,” the President stated.

Consensus Option Still Valuable — Tinubu

Speaking further, Tinubu described the party’s consensus arrangement as a useful mechanism that can help reduce internal disputes and preserve harmony among members.

He explained that consensus remains part of democratic practice within the APC and should be embraced where necessary to prevent avoidable conflicts.
