Akpabio Denies Making “Reckless” Statement Against US President, Donald Trump

Godswil Akpaobio

President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has publicly denied making any “reckless” or derogatory statement against former United States President, Donald Trump, following reports circulating on social media that allegedly quoted him criticizing the ex-American leader.

In a statement released through his media office, Akpabio described the reports as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his image both locally and internationally. He maintained that at no point did he issue any comment—formal or informal—regarding Donald Trump or the internal politics of the United States.

According to Akpabio, the alleged remarks were fabricated by mischief makers seeking to create tension and distract from his ongoing legislative duties. He urged the public to disregard the fake news and rely only on official statements issued through credible media channels or his verified platforms.

“I have enormous respect for the leadership and democratic institutions of the United States. Any attempt to link me with disparaging comments about President Donald Trump is completely baseless,” Akpabio stated.

The Senate President further warned purveyors of fake news to desist from such acts, emphasizing that spreading false information can damage diplomatic relations and mislead the public.

Political observers note that this clarification comes amid a rise in misinformation targeting high-profile figures in Nigeria, often fueled by social media accounts impersonating political leaders.

Akpabio reiterated his commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s international relationships and ensuring that his office is not used as a tool for spreading divisive or unverified narratives.
