Supreme Court Affirms Caleb Mutfwang as duly elected governor of Plateau state

Supreme Court Affirms Caleb Mutfwang as duly elected governor of Plateau state  Justice Emmanuel Agim who read the lead judgment held, that the validity of nomination and sponsorship by his party is not a ground for nullifying an election. The Plateau State High Court order has nothing to do with the NEC of the PDP. The court of appeal was wrong in its judgment as the order was for the state executive who had no powers to nominate a candidate for the governorship election,The petitioner's case was an abuse of the court process. A lot of people have suffered because of what the Plateau Court of Appeal did with the appeal.

The Supreme Court has set aside the lower courts' decisions sacking the Kano state Governor,  Yusuff Abba.  The tribunal had set aside Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party victory after declaring 165,663 of his votes invalid. The tribunal held that the deducted votes were from ballot papers that were neither stamped nor signed.   He then approached the appeal court for redress. The appeal court upheld the tribunal's decision and faulted the lower court for not disqualifying the governor. The Supreme Court has, however, on Friday, reinstated the governor.

Betta Edu's Suspension A Welcome Development - Peter Obi

I like to add my voice with most Nigerians concerned about accountability in government and judicious use of public funds, I welcome the suspension of the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Dr Betta Edu, and subsequent directives for her investigation. While the action of the government is a welcome development, the investigation must be comprehensive so that all those culpable are brought to book. The suspension of the Minister should not be a window-dressing action but should be a peg to get at all those who are deserving of blame and punished just like the Minister. By a sad coincidence, the alleged fraudulent diversion of N585 million of public money by Ms. Edu broke almost at the same moment that the Minister who held the same portfolio in the last administration is being investigated for a whopping N37bn misappropriation. The Ministry may have been created by the system as a conduit pipe to siphon public funds while using the poor as a face. Equally worrisome and disgusting is th...

SCOAN: Characters interviewed Unfounded And Unknown To The Church

SCOAN: Characters interviewed Unfounded And Unknown To The Church The Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN) has countered the BBC documentary on the late Temitope Babatunde Joshua, known as TB Joshua, founder of SCOAN. SCOAN described the documentary as unfounded, noting that the characters interviewed in the report were unknown to the church. The church, in a statement signed by its Public Affairs Director, Mr Dare Adejumo, said the statement was aimed at disabusing public minds from the report. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the BBC released a highly controversial and damning documentary on the late TB Joshua on Monday, accusing him of various crimes, including rape, against some members. SCOAN said, “BBC World Services investigative unit, code-named Africa Eye, came out this week with weird and strange episodes of atrocities against the late founder of SCOAN.” It said that to investigate and publish or broadcast reports was a central kernel of journalism, but to do ...
