Ifeanyi Ubah, a member representing Anambra South in the National Assembly, has called on the people of Anambra to give him their mandate in the 2025 governorship election to enable him to address the state’s leadership questions. Mr Ubah of the All Progressives Congress, who spoke to journalists in Nnewi on Sunday, said he was asking for just a term of four years. He said he would conduct local government elections within four months if he became the governor to encourage political participation at the grassroots and make LGA funds available for competitive and decentralised development. Police Arrest Deadly Kidnapper Responsible For Killing Nabeeha

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Bello Mohammed, a 28-year-old suspected kidnapper from Zamfara State, in Kaduna State. He is accused of killing Nabeeha, who was kidnapped along with her family members in Bwari, FCT, Abuja. Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated that the Divisional Police Officer, Tafa Division, acting on intelligence, raided a hotel in the Tafa area of Kaduna and apprehended Bello with N2.25 million, suspected to be proceeds from ransoms collected from kidnapping victims in the area. Adejobi disclosed that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to being part of the gang that kidnapped the family members of Barrister Ariyo in Bwari, FCT, on 2nd January 2024. Supreme Court affirms 5-year jail term for Lawan over $3m bribery saga

The Supreme Court, on Friday, upheld the judgement that convicted and sentenced the former Chairman of the then House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Fuel Subsidy probe, Mr. Farouk Lawan, to five years in prison for bribery. The apex court, in a unanimous decision by a five-member panel, dismissed as lacking in merit, an appeal the former lawmaker, who has been in prison custody since 2021, filed to challenge his conviction. Lawan had among other things, contended that he was not allowed to make a plea of allocutus (plea for leniency) by the trial court before it jailed him. However, in its lead judgement that was prepared by Justice Inyang Okoro but read on Friday by Justice Tijjani Abubakar, the Supreme Court said it was “crystal clear that failure of the trial court to call for allocution, did not vitiate the sentence passed on the Appellant.” It will be recalled that a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory sitting at Apo had on June 22, 2021, sentenced the former lawma...

An Ikeja court on Friday sentenced founder of iReign Christian Ministry, Feyi Daniels, to life imprisonment for “r@pin.g a church member”. The trial judge, Rahman Oshodi, found the Lagos-based cleric guilty. Delivering judgment in the case today January 26, the presiding judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, said he believed the testimony of the complainant as well as other witnesses who gave direct evidence which weren’t contradicted at any point during the trial, despite the denials of the defendant. In the words of the judge, the cleric used his dominant character and position to S£xua.l violate two members of his church. “R@p.e carries a mandatory life imprisonment and s£xua.l assaul.t carries a jail term of three years, which can’t alleviate the harm on your victims.
