Shakira Faces Eight Years Jail Term For Tax Fraud  Colombian singer and songwriter, Shakira, 46, has once again been accused by prosecutors of defrauding the Spanish treasury of £5.75 million, and may face up to eight years in prison if convicted. The singer is already due to go on trial on November 20 at a court in Barcelona for six counts of tax fraud she allegedly committed in 2012, 2013 and 2014. If found guilty of the six counts of tax fraud, amounting to £12.6 million, Shakira could face a prison sentence of up to eight years, Daily Mail reports Tuesday.  Shakira, however, has denied any wrongdoing and insisted she would fight the accusations levied against her in court instead of seeking a last-minute deal with Spanish state prosecutors. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has strongly condemned the disturbing incident involving the abduction of Hon. Matthew Abo, the Commissioner for Information, Culture, and Tourism, as well as Hon. Iorwashima Erukaa, former Chairman of Ukum LGA, by unidentified assailants. In an official statement released on Monday, September 25, 2023, Sir Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, reported that Hon. Abo was forcibly taken away from his residence in Sankara around 8 pm on Sunday, while Hon. Erukaa had been abducted the day before. NLC, TUC declare mass action to ‘shut down nation’ from Oct. 3. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TU) have directed their members and affiliate bodies to start a mass action on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, as a protest against the state of the nation. The labour unions announced the decision in a communique issued at the end of virtual meetings of their respective national executive councils.  The organisations said they have decided “in the spirit of the Independence Day celebration and to demonstrate our resolve for a truly independent Nigeria to take our destinies in our own hands and rescue our nation.  To embark on an indefinite and total shutdown of the nation beginning on zero hours on Tuesday, the 3rd day of October 2023. To direct all workers in Nigeria to withdraw their services from their respective workplaces commencing from the 3rd of October.

Federal Capital Territory Administration says owners of 149 impounded vehicles, 100 tricycles and motorcycles in the FCT will appear before a mobile court for various traffic offences. The Director, of FCTA Directorate of Road Traffic Services, also known as Vehicles Inspection Officers, Dr Abdulateef Bello, stated this in Abuja, after inspecting the impounded vehicles. Bello, who visited some of the VIO Commands where the impounded vehicles, tricycles and motorcycles were kept, said that the owners would pay dearly for their sins. He explained that the offences included parking in unauthorised areas, driving against traffic, and operating unregistered and unpainted taxis as well as illegal motor parks.
