The Harder they Try, the Harder they Fall.

The Harder they Try, the Harder they Fall. By Chimezie Williams It's bizarre that a party that claimed to have won an election are the ones that have embarked on endless propaganda and campaign of calumny against a party/candidate that purportedly came 3rd in the same election. Every discerning mind knows that this weird paradoxical drama has everything to do with the water-tight presidential election petition instituted by the Labor Party against the APC and their accomplices in the most brazen electoral robbery of all time. Since LP took up the challenge to go to court, the APC vicious and odious machinery has been so rattled that they keep manufacturing one laughable propaganda or the other to discredit Peter Obi against the obvious expected verdict of the Court case. But unfortunately for them, it's a case of medicine after death. Nigerians have chosen the man they know will rescue them from the mess created by the same APC disastrous government. No amount of blackmail will...

0rgan Harvesting: Why Mrs Ekweremadu was taken to prison immediately

0rgan Harvesting: Why Mrs Ekweremadu was taken to prison immediately Shortly after last Thursday’s first of its kind organ harvesting conviction of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife, Beatrice, alongside Dr. Obinna Obeta at the Central Criminal Court, a.k.a. Old Bailey, her barrister, Anu Mohindru, KC, made efforts for her to remain on conditional bail till the provisional day of sentencing on Friday, May 5, 2023, but the Crown’s Hugh Davies, KC, who had raised the “bail” matter rose to his feet immediately to block the defence application. While Mohindru argued that the court should consider the plight of the couple’s daughter, Sonia, who is said to sometimes “black out” and needs support to attend her thrice weekly dialysis sessions at the Royal Free Hospital, Davies convinced the judge that the Ekweremadus have the means to enable the Senator’s wife jet out of the United Kingdom, including by using “forged identification documents.” The prosecutor reference...

Male students have trickled back to their classes after universities reopened in Afghanistan following a winter break, but women remain barred by the ruling Taliban.

Male students have trickled back to their classes after universities reopened in Afghanistan following a winter break, but women remain barred by the ruling Taliban. The university ban is one of several restrictions imposed on women since the Taliban stormed back to power in August 2021 and has sparked global outrage, including across the Muslim world. “It’s heartbreaking to see boys going to the university while we have to stay at home,” said Rahela, 22, from the central province of Ghor. “This is gender discrimination against girls because Islam allows us to pursue higher education. Nobody should stop us from learning.” The Taliban government imposed the ban after accusing women students of ignoring a strict dress code and a requirement to be accompanied by a male relative to and from campus. Most universities had already introduced gender-segregated entrances and classrooms, as well as allowing women to be taught only by female professors or elderly men. Al Jazeera
